Caleb Danvers

Caleb Danvers is the oldest member of the Sons of Ipswich and is regarded by the other students of the Spenser Academy as one of the baddest boys on campus. He was born on September 9th, 1988, twelve minutes past eleven. He is the son of Evelyn Danvers and William Danvers III and is a warlock. He is a descendant of one of the five founders of the Ipswich colony: Danvers, Garwin, Simms, Parry, and Putnam. He attends Spenser Academy alongside Pogue Parry, Reid Garwin and Tyler Simms.

Personality[]

Caleb is the most mature and responsible one of the Sons of Ipswich. He is also is very charming with the ladies. Most of all, he doesn't like to use his powers for fun or anything. He doesn't want to be a power addict like his father became or how Chase is. Though, he is not afraid to use his powers to defend himself or to protect his loved ones. And he can't wait to help the ones he loves.

Biography[]

The beginning[]

Caleb is the de-facto leader of the Sons of Ipswich, as he is the oldest and closest to ascension, with his 18th birthday just a week away. He must reign in a rebellious Reid, who uses his magic however he sees fit and causing chaos in his wake. At a Bonfire, he meets new transfers Chase Collins and Sarah Wrenham (who he is immediately smittenby), but this meeting is brief when the police show up. All four sons are chased by the police and use their combined power to levitate Tyler's car off a cliff and evade arrest.

Hours later, a student is murdered using magic, an act powerful enough to wake Caleb from a deep sleep and he is haunted by darkling force, sent by an unknown messenger. He firstly suspects Reid of being the one behind the murder, but Reid denies it and the two get into a heated battle - with Caleb winning.

The truth revealed[]

Caleb and Sarah spend more time together, with their relationship quickly progressing to become more romantic. During a swim race against Chase, he notices Chase's eyes flash as if he is using magic. He becomes instantly suspicious and together with Pogue, break into the admissions office to find out answers. There they learn the truth about Chase's family and his relation to the Putnam line of warlocks.

He confronts Chase after both Kate and Pogue are hospitalised due to his dark magic. Chase tells him the only way to save Kate from a deadly end is to surrender his powers to him after he ascends.

Final battle[]

Caleb meets Chase at the old barn. Thinking Sarah is safe, Caleb is shocked to find her hovering and unconscious in the barn after being kidnapped from the annual dance by Chase. Caleb refuses to surrender his powers and the two battle. Chase has the advantage due to his double ascension. However, when Caleb finally ascends, the playing field is even ... almost. Still having the upper hand, Chase looks to be winning the fight until Caleb's father sacrifices himself to empower Caleb and using a powerful blast of telekinetic energy, seemingly kills Chase and sends him flying into the burning barn. He saves Sarah and leaves the barn.

Hours later, the fire department arrive at the barn but don't find Chase's body. Caleb uses his powers to casually repair his car's broken windscreen and takes Sarah's hand, as the pair drive off away from the scene.

Powers & Abilities[]

Caleb wields The Power, a mysterious source of supernatural abilities which first manifested within him on his 13th birthday. Even before his ascension, Caleb's powers were greater and more developed than his peers due to his five years of experience in harnessing and controlling The Power. His early abilities include:

  • Enhanced Strength: By summoning the mystical forces within his body, Caleb can increase his physical strength to levels beyond human. He is stronger than his warlock peers. After his ascension, his strength seemed to increase greatly.
  • Pyrokinesis: Caleb ignited a ring of fire on the altar around The Book of Damnation with only his will.
  • Telekinesis: Caleb can levitate and manipulate objects with only his sheer willpower. He does not seem to need to focus to use this power; he used this ability to summon The Book of Damnation from the bookshelf and even opened and turned the pages on its own, as if it were alive, with no visible effort on his part. Even before his ascension, he was able to survive a head-on collision with a semi-truck in his car, by using his telekinesis to reassemble the vehicle, however, a feat of such magnitude left him visibly sweating and breathing heavily. By channeling this ability with that of his friends, they were able to lift Tyler's Hummer and fly through the air over a cliff. He can use this ability on himself in order to levitate and maneuver in the air.
  • Power Sensory: Because of their spiritual union, Caleb can sense whenever another of the Sons of Ipswich is using his powers. He can also feel the strength of the power used. An example of which is how someone else's use of The Power was able to wake him from his sleep in the night.

Relationships[]

Evelyn Danvers (his mother)[]

Caleb has a good relationship with his mother, but she worries about him due to his powers and his upcoming birthday because of how his father fell victim to his powers. After his father aged prematurely from overusing his powers and had his death faked to relocate him, Caleb stayed at home at their estate to take care of her after she became an alcoholic. She keeps telling him not to succumb to his powers like his father did.

William Danvers III (his father)[]

It is unknown what Caleb’s relationship with his father was like, but as he is the primary reason for why he tries to use his powers as little as possible, it is implied that they got along well before he succumbed to the seductiveness of his powers. William loved his son that when Evelyn came to see him, he willed him his power to give a chance against Chase, resulting in his death.

Sarah Wenham[]

Caleb met Sarah at the Dells and it was love at first sight. She was introduced to him and the other members of the Sons of Ipswich at around the same time as Chase Collins. Upon learning that Caleb comes from a long line of men in the Covenant that have possession of The Power after an attack on Kate by Chase, she is, presumably, still with Caleb after Chase was defeated by him.

Pogue Parry[]

As the second eldest members of the Sons of Ipswich, Pogue is probably Caleb’s best friend and has his back regarding their use of their powers.

Reid Garwin[]

Tyler Simms[]

As the youngest member of the Sons of Ipswich, Tyler has respect for Caleb and follows him. According to Caleb, Tyler doesn’t have any drive to lie to him about things.
